The Ministry is responsible for regulating the social housing sector, including the Act on Social Housing which determines conditions for financing, establishing, and operating social family housing, senior housing, and youth housing. The Ministry is involved in a number of collaborations, e.g. on preventing homelessness.
In addition, the Ministry is responsible for legislation regarding the National Building Fund, which is an independent fund providing support for renovations, new construction, and transformation of social housing estates from a social perspective. An important aspect of this is the effort to meet climate targets through the initiative Green Guarantee.
Finally, the Ministry is responsible for initiatives against parallel societies through, e.g., development plans, rental rules, and the annual lists of parallel societies, as well as secretarial services for the government's representatives for parallel societies.
