Public Housing

The Policy Area

The Ministry is responsible for regulating the public housing sector, including the Public Housing Act which determines conditions for financing, establishing, and operating public family housing, pension homes, and youth housing. The Ministry is involved in a number of collaborations, e.g. on combating homelessness and ensuring good housing conditions for seniors.

In addition, the Ministry is responsible for legislation regarding the National Building Fond, which is an independent fund providing support for renovations, new construction, and conversion of public housing divisions from a social perspective. An important aspect of this is the effort to meet climate targets through the initiative Green Guarantee.

Finally, the Ministry is responsible for combating parallel societies through, e.g., development plans, rental rules, and the annual lists of ghetto areas, as well as secretarial services for the government's ghetto representatives.
